DESCRIPTION
The VW Golf is surely one of the most iconic "hot-hatches' ever conceived. Its popularity has never diminished and a plethora of variants and styles have always been hungrily anticipated and universally enjoyed by the car's cult following all of whom treasure the next instalment from Volkswagen, the hot-hatch giant.
While many motorists today appreciate the exhilaration of roof-down "wind-in-your-hair' motoring, few are willing to forego the saloon-car comfort in order to enjoy it. The Golf GTi convertible makes any such sacrifice unnecessary because it is designed and built by one of the world's most experienced builders of open-touring cars - Karmann of Osnabrück. With the hood up the vendor tells us there are no draughts, whistles nor flapping. Lower the hood - a simple matter of releasing two clasps - and you're ready to take advantage of every moment of sunshine which a British summer can muster. The motoring press and enthusiastic drivers are unanimous in agreeing that the Golf GTi is still the one to beat in its class.
The limited edition "All-White' convertible GTi offered here today is very special indeed. Showing a genuine mileage of just 20,625 miles at time of consignment, supported by all MoT's, this car has been the property of only a handful of owners during that period, most of whom had a connection to Sir David Jason of "Only Fools & Horses' fame...
David bought the car in May 1988 when it was one year old and registered it to Myfanwy Talog, his long-standing partner before it was transferred to Sidney Law a few months later. Sidney was David's manager at the time. Some nine years elapsed when, in 1997, the car, still showing only nominal mileage, was passed on to John Williams. John was the godfather of David's children before it was eventually acquired by the vendor several years later.
While in John Williams' ownership the car was awarded 140/140 points in the VW Owners Club GTi concours event, testament to the resounding quality of this car and the care with which it had been treated. The presentation of the car today is no different. Alpine White coachwork matches the hood, white bumpers, white interior, adjustable door mirrors, while the front spoiler and white painted alloy sports wheels give this limited edition car a massive presence. The 1780cc transverse four-cylinder in-line engine with fuel injection performs faultlessly, and the driving experience, as corroborated from VW literature by our vendor, is exhilarating. This car is offered with UK V5C, and valid MoT certificate to May 2013.
This is a sporting and fun car, with sensible claims for future value growth, and is arguably the best available in the market today. It has often been said that a car is an extension of its driver's personality and lifestyle - Could you imagine yourself driving this exclusive "All White' VW Golf Convertible GTi?
This VW is a limited edition "All White", very desirable, only 138 were made according to our vendor, and we believe, they were some of the last MK1's manufactured. There is an amazing history file with this car that details all the history about the All White with original factory literature and also all back MoT's & bills.
