DESCRIPTION
Launched at the Paris Motor Show in 1984 the Ferrari Testarossa was the car that epitomised 80's excess. Designed by Pininfarina the car featured the iconic side strakes which despite being a design feature were actually to direct air into the side radiators that had been built into the rear sides of the engine bay. Fitted with a 4.9 litre flat 12 cylinder engine that produced 390 bhp that propelled this 1506kg super car from 0 to 60mph in just 5.2 seconds and onto a top speed of 180mph. So dramatic was it's design that posters of the Testarossa went on to adorn the bedroom walls of many a school boy and a white Testarossa also featured as the main transport for Crocket and Tubbs in Michael Mann's 80's TV Cop Series "Miami Vice".
"E596 CGK" was ordered on the 26th of October 1987 by Strattons (Wilmslow ) Ltd at a cost of £72,820.18. Finished in Rosso Corsa with full black leather interior, she is fitted with the desirable "knock off" wheels and dual wing mirrors.
From early on she led a pampered life and was reputedly sold for £250,000 at the height of the late 80's supercar boom. In 1997, with supercar values on the floor, she suffered light damage to her nearside front. The insurance company, influenced by the high cost of Ferrari parts and the relatively low value of the vehicle at the time, decided not to repair ~ and the car was declared an insurance "Cat C". The damage sustained was light and involved replacing only the near nearside wing bumper and bonnet.
She was then purchased by a Mr Daley in 1999 who decided to rebuild her and enter her into a prestigious Ferrari concours. Every part of the car was stripped replaced, repainted or replated before being put back together. At one point during the restoration he was not happy with the standard of the paintwork so had the car stripped and repainted again. Upon completion she was entered into the 2002 Ferrari Owners Club concours where she scored 333 points. She was again entered in 2003 scoring another 333 points. At this point she was considered one of the the best Testarossa's in the country enhanced by her low mileage, which at this point was only 19,550 miles. In 2004 she was sold to a Mr Carter who kept her for 4 years when she was purchased by her current owner in 2008. Since then she has been part of a private collection of Ferraris and during his ownership she has had a cambelt service and 4 new correct Michelin tyres in 2012. More recently she has had replacement distributor caps, rotors, plug leads and spark plugs. In 2013 she was shown as part of the Ferrari owners club display at Salon Prive. She has now covered approx 23,000 miles and is still in stunning condition.
Offered with a fresh MoT, current V5C and comprehensive history file, this supercar from the 1980's should not be ignored at this guide price.
