1988 Mercedes-Benz 300SL

The first Mercedes 300SL saw the light of day in 1954 and featured those amazing "Gullwing Doors'. The concept of a well-engineered, fast, comfortable "Grand Tourer' has carried on for some six design generations and is still with us today.

The 300SL model we have here today was manufactured between 1986 and 1989 and featured the 3.0 litre, six cylinder DOHC engine. At the time it was felt that despite the smaller, lighter engine the car handled marginally better than some of its predecessors.

A high-quality example of the marque in red coachwork with resplendent cream and red interior, "E69 VFD' came into the possession of the current owner in August 2008 and was used for a short period before joining his large and eclectic collection, last being used on the road in 2010 though MoT'd in May 2011 in the hope of enough good weather for use that summer. It has been stored since this time in ideal heated and dry condition with a trickle-charger on the battery which explains the great order that the car is presented in today.

Unusually, this Mercedes-Benz has covered just 58,000 miles from new and boasts more than 12 stamps in the book for services at regular intervals, the latest with Mercedes-Benz of Peterborough in September 2009 at 58,157 miles and to the tune of more than £400.00.

Offered for sale with a fresh MoT, V5C registration document and matching hard-top, again in very good order, this is a far superior Mercedes to many that we see offered at auction and worthy of a second look today...
