1988 Mercedes-Benz R107 300SL Auto

Mercedes have been producing an SL (Sport Leicht) model or range of models since 1954 when the landmark 300SL was unveiled. The larger, third generation SL (R107) was launched in 1971, initially with just a 3.5-litre engine (350SL) mated to a four-speed automatic transmission. The 1985 incarnation was the 300 SL. This model was powered by a 2962cc straight-six engine that produced 185bhp at 5,700rpm and 188lbft of torque at 4,400 - sufficient output to endow this open topped Mercedes with rapid acceleration and a potential "autobahn eating' top speed of 130mph.This 300SL is finished in Petrol Blue metallic with an upgraded beige Mercedes-Benz Tex interior and comes with a new blue mohair hood and matching hard top. It also comes complete with a hard top stand, protective case, and a good quality outdoor car cover. The body was subject to a full restoration and was repainted in 2010 and is in generally very good condition. The seats are almost unmarked and a new beige carpet set was fitted at the same time as the restoration. The vendor reports that it drives very well, with its powerful and silky smooth 6 cylinder engine and seamless automatic gear change, this car always turns heads. It comes complete with a history file that includes old MOTs and V5 documents to support its low mileage, along with receipts from official Mercedes-Benz dealers as well as other general maintenance records. A Toad Category 1 alarm and immobiliser has just been professionally installed. An oil and filter service was completed just a few hundred miles ago. Having covered just over 85,000 miles from new, this is a lovely, late model example of the classic Mercedes-Benz "Sport Leicht' and it comes with the best combination of the 3 litre six cylinder engine and galvanised body.
