1990 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1

The introduction of the ZR-1 Corvette by Chevrolet in 1990 marked a big step forward for the venerable American sports car. In 1986 General Motors had acquired the Lotus Group and had access to their expertise that would enable the ZR-1 to be a competent contender in the world sports car market. Lotus were involved with the design of the aluminium block, 32 valve V8 engine that gave the Corvette sledgehammer performance. Given that this was the first design not to be GRP the performance made stunning reading. Top speed was over 180mph and 0-60 took just 4.4 seconds, but importantly is was a very robust sports car setting numerous endurance records as GM promoted the fact. One particular record set at Fort Stockton Raceway, Texas, was 24hrs at 175.885 mph with a distance of 4232.60 miles covered. Not surprisingly Galloway Corvettes have been a fixture at Le Mans 24hrs for many years.

Offered here is a Targa version of the ZR-1 manufactured in 1990 and finished in black with black interior, which was imported by the owner in 1997.

Whilst on a driving tour of the West Coast he enjoyed the experience so much he went about shipping a version to the UK. One of the pleasing aspects of the ZR-1 is its light clutch compared with other super cars of the day. It has been well admired at various events and is a sliver medal recipient from the Corvette Owners meetings, mainly for its originality.

The car has been maintained by renowned experts Geff Jeal and Tom Falconer and stored in an Airchamber. The history file contains records of expenditure, handbooks, old MOT certificates and spare keys. The owner still retains some spares, which can be purchased separately.
