DESCRIPTION

Jaguar introduced the XJS coupe in 1975. Even though it was brought to market the same year as the legendary E-Type was phased out, it was never intended to be a 'replacement'. It used a fuel injected version of the same V12 engine, mated to, predominately, an automatic gearbox, its concept was far more as a long-legged GT or Gentleman's Express than an out and out sports car. By the time its model life had reached 21 years, in excess of 115,000 XJS had been produced, utilising a number of engine specifications and body styles, with revisions occuring throughout the model's life. Automatic and manual gearboxes were on offer, with engines in V12 and straight six configuration. Whilst never overly sought after as its E-Type sibling, these cars do have a following all of their own, with good examples such as this commanding a premium.

This particular XJS was built in 1990 and delivered to a lease-hire firm. It was ordered, via their local Jaguar franchise, for the exclusive use of the Chairman of a small engineering company. This driver was to keep the Jaguar cossetted and highly valued until his death. When the contract expired, the Company took ownership of the motor car until the Chairman retired when it passed to his ownership as part of his retirement package. The car remained his until his death, when it was inherited by his daughter. She kept the car until it became incompatible to her growing family, and it was passed out of the family for the first time since 1990. The current owner had extensive work done to bring it up to current MOT specification - mostly to do with the rear brakes which had siezed during a period of storage.

The XJS is offered entirely Without Reserve. It has a current MOT certificate and is SORN registered. It has a Jaguar Heritage certificate, dated February 2011. The total mileage is only 51,856 and the original book pack is in the history file, along with a number of receipts and a valuation certificate of £1,600 for the distinctive registration number which, of course, is part of the Lot and offered with the car. There are a couple of minor defects on the bodywork which would benefit from attention, but the car is said to start and run superbly and has been enhanced by the fitment of an Alpine CD stereo with USB port - though the original Jaguar radio casette is still with the car for the historical completist. A great opportunity to acquire what has to be one of the better survivors of the type, with the benefit of extensive single family ownership and an average annual mileage of under 5,000. Silverstone Auctions urge you to take this Lot most seriously at the auction.
