1990 Modified Porsche 928 GT

The Porsche 928 was a magnificent Grand Tourer in the true sense of the word , it was produced between 1978 to 1995. At the time Porsche were looking at moving away from the 911 concept and wanted an alternative that would cater for the more conventional owners that were currently buying cars like Mercedes. The 911 survived and is of course still with us but the 928 really was a superb motorcar. It combined serious power with immense refinement and in 1983 it was the fastest car available in the USA, a market that had always been important to Porsche. The 928 GT was launched in late 1988 and was available only as a manual and came with a limited slip differential. The final version, the 1996 GTS was expensive at around £65,000 in UK and $100,000 in the USA. Total worldwide production reached nearly 61,000 units.

Offered today is a 5 litre 928 GT with full service history. The cambelts and the water pump were changed 3000 miles ago. Our vendor purchased it in 2007 and decided to modify the coupe as a tribute to Porsche's Club Sport and RS ( Renn Sport) models. If Porsche had decided to produce a 928 RS then this is possibly the sort of route they might have followed. The 928 is certainly no lightweight so the vendor set about lightening the body shell by removing the sunroof and side strips and then nicely repainting it Grand Prix white. The electric seats alone were another very heavy item so these have been replaced with two competition seats. With trackdays in mind it comes with Sabelt 3inch belts and a rear roll-cage. The original interior door cards have been replaced with very fine lightweight carbon covers in true RS tradition, but the electric windows remain in place. The 928 has an Acupump oil pressure system. The 928 always handled well but the vendor has improved this with Leda dampers and Eibach sports springs. It has GTS brake calipers on the front with vented and drilled discs, there are "blue' Pagid pads all round and Goodrich hoses. The Ruf 5 Spoke wheels have Toyo 888's tyres fitted.
