- Registered in Tenerife until bought by Konstantin-Assen, Prince of Vidin, Duke of Saxony in 2012
- Showing some 92,600 km or 57,800 miles (atoc) the car is now in the UK on a NOVA
- The history file is extensive with numerous receipts for main dealer servicing and maintenance
- Supplied with the original handbooks and service book, the car is in first-class order
- A unique opportunity to purchase a European delivered 500E with Royal provenance
With its engineering department fully occupied with the development of the new S-Class, Mercedes-Benz commissioned Porsche in 1989 to redesign the W124 chassis to enable the 5.0L V8 from the SL to be shoehorned in, along with the necessary changes to the suspension system and drivetrain. The ultimate 'wolf in sheep's clothing' of the 1990's, the 500E saloon was built to rival the BMW M5 and was created in close cooperation with Porsche. The new stealth saloon offered no visible clues on the outside except for very slightly flared wheel arches, wider tyres, and discreet side skirts. 60mph arrived in just five seconds and 100mph in just over 14 seconds, remarkable for a car with such stately presence. It was only available as a hand-built, four-door saloon in left-hand drive and the low production numbers rendered it an instant classic.
Supplied by Mercedes-Benz Ahlers & Rahn S.A Canary Islands in Nautical Blue Metallic on the 11th July 1991 until bought by Prince Konstantin in 2012. The supplying Mercedes-Benz dealer on the island maintained the car until 2012 when it was brought onto the Spanish mainland and thereafter regularly maintained at Mercedes-Benz I.T.R.A-S.L. Madrid, most recently serviced by them in October 2019 at 92,240km.
The extensive history file is filled with main dealer receipts and documents showing Prince Konstantin's name. Scans of the maintenance and service receipts and the service book can be emailed to interested parties. The car arrived in the UK in June and is currently on a NOVA, ready for UK or overseas registration and the UK MOT is valid until June 2021. With the odometer, at the time of cataloguing, showing some 92,600 kilometres or 57,800 miles the interior is as one would imagine. Silverstone Auctions has offered the very finest examples of the 500E over the last few years and this car is among the best, and with impeccable provenance, we welcome inspection of this car and its history file.
To conclude, it is rare enough to offer an example of the eminently driveable 500E with such low mileage, but it must be unheard of to offer one from Royal ownership from. How many can say, in 2020, that they own a car that belonged to the son of a Tsar?
