SUMMARY
One of the most driver-focused and rewarding Porsches you will ever find.
DESCRIPTION
Believed to be one of only 20 'Racing programme' cars from the original 290 N/GT cars built. 3.6-litre engine, G50 manual gearbox and fully welded roll cage Indicating 47,500 km (29,500 miles) and finished in a lovely shade of Maritime Blue with a black part-leather interior Recent Independent Condition Report carried out by 'Porsche Inspections', available on request. Very rare, competitively guided, this Carrera RS ( N/GT) offers a drive that's as unique as its own story of existence. The Carrera RS was further developed by Porsche in 1992 with the launch of the N/GT and a total of just 290 of these very special cars were put together, all in left-hand drive. These cars were further stripped-out with all the carpets removed and replaced with plywood foot-boards for the driver. A fully welded cage was fitted, and the standard RS seats were replaced with lightweight, Nomex-covered, FIA specification racing buckets. The N/GT also featured a long-range fuel tank, dual internal fire extinguishers, an internal dash mounted engine cut-off, and the DME was relocated behind the driver to allow the use of six-point harnesses. Harder and more track focused, the result is a car which feels more direct and visceral than the standard RS whilst still being usable on road or track. We believe that this isn't any ordinary 964 N/GT as the vendor informs us that this could well be a very rare, sub-production model of the N/GT of which only 20 were made. The story goes that in the early 1990s, 26 cars were ordered by Porsche destined for a one-make series in Macau. However, the championship was cancelled leaving Weissach in possession of 26 unwanted 1992 spec N/GT's. In 1995, Mitsuwa, a one-time Porsche importer to Japan, originally offered to buy 20 of the cars from the factory providing they were refitted with interiors more benefiting of a road car. Porsche obliged but later that year before the cars were delivered the deal was cancelled so instead the 20 cars were sold to Art Sports in Osaka, who marketed the cars as 964 RS 'Racing Package'. Each car was painted in a different colour and all were sold in Japan. Elements of the story surrounding those early years may be shrouded in relative mystery but we are informed that the interior retrofit was done at the factory. These options included a leather covered cage, triple leather covered RS Touring bucket seat and a full set of RS carpets. WP0ZZZ96ZNS499272 is finished in a lovely shade of Maritime Blue with a black, part-leather interior and the odometer shows 47,500 km (29,500 miles). All identity marks are present and correct and they match all data available from DVLA, HPi and the database held by Porsche Cars GB. The car was first registered in the UK on the 9th February 2016, having apparently spent a good deal of its life in Japan. Our vendor has owned this rare 911 since early 2016 and it has formed part of his private collection. Prior to the forthcoming Porsche sale, as there is little in the way of history accompanying this rare car, our vendor took the decision in August to sanction an Independent Condition Report which was carried out by 'Porsche Inspections'. There is a significant amount of detail within this report as to the overall condition of the car and interested parties are welcome to contact the office to obtain a copy, and naturally, there will be copies available in the auction room as well. The condition of the car looks commensurate with the mileage indicated and the condition overall is consistent with what you might expect from what is essentially a racing car for the road. Its very being may well be the stuff of Porsche legend, another scintillating tale from inside Stuttgart, but this very special N/GT offers a drive that's as unique as its own story - an RS in its purest form.
