Fast Fords are our thing here at Silverstone Auctions. We love them, and their enthusiastic owners, and occasionally we get a chance to offer an icon from Ford's unique motorsport-based past models. The Escort RS Cosworth was an 'homologation special' and its sole role was to incorporate parts that Ford planned to use in their rally cars to ensure success in International Rallying. That success duly followed between 1993 and 1998 in the World Rally Championship for Manufacturers, but the road cars were very rare - with just 2,500 'homologation special' versions made, becoming known as 'big turbo cars' and all capable of 150mph and easily identified by the aptly named 'Whale Tail' rear spoiler.

This particular Escort Cosworth has been consigned from one of the most notable Ford collections in the UK today, a vendor that we are very proud to deal with. It had been acquired by him from the original owning family back in 2013, where it had been stored in heated dry storage since 1997 having been taken off the road with just 13,375 miles recorded from new. Today, having had a fresh MOT and service on 14th October 2020 complete with a new battery, it has still only covered 13,802 miles from new.

Timewarp cars like this are extremely rare and very difficult to find. There are some slight modifications from new carried out in the period, but when you see the car, which is still finished throughout in its original factory paint and panels, you will struggle to find a better or more original car.

One for the serious Blue Oval collector, this is a car that can be driven and enjoyed today yet, given its condition and rarity will, almost certainly, provide worthwhile value growth.
