1995 BMW 850 CSi

The 850 CSi makes no exception in having several names. In this case, the term M8 is mentioned and is correct. The 850CSi is a real M-car. It does not only have an M-bred engine (type S70) but has been manufactured by BMW M as well, according to the VIN which starts with WBS (BMW Motorsport) instead of WBA (BMW AG). The BMW 850CSi is a detuned version of the M8, which was never produced and remained a prototype only. The M8 should have been built in a consequently lightweight manner in order to be a 'Ferrari-Killer'. The specially developed 550 hp engine has never been used except in the prototype - of which only one exists. But with the support of McLaren, the M8 engine was transformed into the power plant of the McLaren F1 super sports car. At the time of development there was virtually no market for such a car, so the BMW bosses sadly cancelled the project. However, the CSi became the production derivative and was subsequently built in very limited numbers. First registered on 22nd March 1995 and supplied by Evans Halshaw BMW, this 850 CSi is one of only 160 right-hand drive cars ever produced. Finished in Orient Blue metallic coachwork with black and grey leather interior, it features a 6-speed manual transmission mated to a 5.6 Litre V12. The engine produces 380 bhp engine as per all the 850 CSi models, along with a sunroof, electric seats, rear wheel steering, air con, etc.It is supplied with all original handbooks, service books, tool kit and two sets of keys. There is a large history file with BMW main dealers to 65,000 miles, then specialists thereafter. The current mileage is 122,000 miles. Owned by the vendor for the past 8 years, this 850 CSi has formed part of a significant private collection and has been used, maintained correctly and enjoyed. Other than usual interval servicing, the whole suspension system was rebuilt recently at significant cost. A full service will be carried out prior to the auction.
