1996 Porsche 911 993 Cabriolet

Introduced in September 1993, the 993 variant of the marque was notable for being Porsche's last air-cooled 911; an honour which rewards the driver of the extremely capable 993 today. Improved handling, ride-quality and refinement courtesy of a stiffer-chassis to that of its 964 predecessor and multi-link rear suspension delivered notable gains in high-speed stability cementing the legend of the Porsche 911 which continues with the new 991.Powered by a reworked 3.6 litre flat-six engine allied to six-speed manual or semi-automatic Tiptronic transmission, the result was some 272bhp on tap and a claimed 0-60mph in 5.5 seconds with a 167mph top speed. By 1996, the introduction of the Variocam powerplant improved bhp by 13hp. Flared wheel arches, flatter set headlights and advanced underbody aerodynamics completed the impressive package. For many, the last 'true' 911, the 993 made way for the water-cooled 996 in 1998.Purchased by our vendor in 2008 from H&H Auctions, this August 1996 registered car has been carefully stored and subjected to fewer than 3,000miles during his custodianship. Just prior to his purchase, the car reportedly received a replacement electrically-operated canvas soft-top hood in Blue which still looks very fresh today. It is accompanied by the matching tonneau cover.Finished in an unusual but attractive Turquoise metallic paint with contrasting light Grey leather upholstery, this fine example is in all round good condition both internally and externally. The paint retains a deep shine (save for one or two unavoidable small stone-chips to the nose) and the seat-leather is plush and fresh (save for a little light scarring on the driver's seat squab, testament to the mileage). Boasting just four former keepers, this car has travelled fewer than 26,000 miles from new, warranted by MOTs and services; 8 in total, up to 22,717 miles. It drives superbly, sounds fantastic and travels through the manual gearbox with ease. Finally, it wears the appropriate registration number 'C11 CAB' (Carrera 2 Cabriolet). Sold with UK V5C in the name of our privateer vendor and MOT'd to mid-September 2015, this handsome and desirable 993 variant of the iconic 911 has to be one of the finest and lowest mileage examples for sale in the UK today.
