1996 Porsche 911 (993) Turbo

The 993 Turbo, introduced in mid-1995, retained a tight hold on the torch of the most powerful 911 variant whilst continuing the general development and improvements to the breed as a whole. Amongst the new features on the 993 Turbo was an electronically controlled, viscous coupling, all-wheel-drive system, something Porsche had not offered on a turbocharged model since the 959 and a system that greatly improved the driveability of the Turbo. Under the engine lid, now topped with a sculpted spoiler tail with downturned edges, resided the 3.6-litre, flat-six force-fed by twin K16 turbos. Combined with bigger brakes, fatter tires, a wide body and lower stance, the 993 Turbo was one of the fastest cars on the planet. With all four wheels helping to evenly distribute great handfuls of power, 0-60mph was dispatched in a staggering 3.7 seconds, 100mph whistled by in a further 5.7 seconds, and the linear forward thrust continued until the speedometer needle had said goodbye to 180mph and you were on conversational terms with the horizon.

This delightful example was supplied by Evans Halshaw in UK-C16 specification to the first of just two owners on the 23rd March 1996 specified in Polar Silver with a light-grey leather interior and the usual Porsche interior refinements of electric seats with driver and passenger lumbar supports and aluminium gear stick trimmed in matching grey leather. The UK V5C and online records show just one registered keeper until its purchase by our vendor on the 12th February 2016, joining an extensive private collection. Having only covered some 768 miles in four years, our vendor concedes that the car now deserves to be enjoyed by someone else. Despite the lack of use, the car has been lavished with maintenance works amounting to some ú6,329 by leading independent Porsche specialists, Tech-9. The recent bills barely fit into the lever-arch folder that makes up the detailed history file, which also shows dozens of receipts from Porsche main agents over the decades.

The well-stamped service book is joined by the Porsche owner's manual, other documents and the spare keys in the original wallet. With an odometer reading of 89,304 miles, at the time of cataloguing, and fresh from an MOT test, this car offers an opportunity to be enjoyed by the new owner in a condition that is akin to a car with a third of the mileage.
