Super Touring was a motor racing formula for touring cars defined by the FIA in 1993. It was based on the 2-litre touring cars from the 1990 British Touring Car Championship. The FIA organised a World Cup from 1993-1995 and adopted the term 'super tourer' from 1995. Super touring replaced Group A as the pinnacle of touring car championships around the world but due to the withdrawal of works teams the category sadly ended in 2000. This 1997 Honda Accord super tourer is the first Prodrive built Honda and was driven by Gabrielle Tarquini in the 1997 British Touring Car Championship. Under the superb stewardship of Tarquini, chassis number PRO-ST/H-9701 achieved five podium finishes including a fantastic victory at Thruxton and an impressive 6th overall in the championship for that year. An extensive and sympathetic restoration has recently been completed. The engine features a 300bhp Neil Brown built engine mated to a six-speed Hewland sequential gearbox. The car weighs only 975kg and is massively impressive on the track and surprisingly easy to drive. The engine has only covered 500 kilometres and the gearbox is also fresh for extended use. The current owner raced this car last year at various prestigious events, such as the Silverstone Classic. Inevitably, this Accord is eligible to race again in 2015 and can put any perspective buyer on the grid with the likes of John Cleland and Tim Harvey.
