SUMMARY
Rare 2002 Volkswagen Passat W8 with just 68,000 recorded miles – a luxurious and powerful modern classic saloon in outstanding condition. 4-litre W8 power with German build quality and reliability.
DESCRIPTION
Background:
The Volkswagen Passat W8 was introduced in 2001 at the Geneva Motor Show as the flagship model of the B5.5 Passat range. Aiming to rival luxury sedans, it featured a unique 4.0-litre W8 engine, derived from VW’s innovative W-configuration technology, producing 271bhp and 370Nm of torque. This allowed the car to accelerate from 0-60mph in 6.5 seconds and reach a top speed of 155mph, making it one of the most powerful Passats ever produced.
The W8 was offered with either a 6-speed manual or 5-speed automatic gearbox, and VW’s 4Motion all-wheel-drive system came as standard, enhancing grip and handling. Available as a saloon or estate, it included premium features such as leather upholstery, dual-zone climate control and an upgraded sound system.
Priced at over £30,000 when new, the W8 was an exclusive model targeted at enthusiasts seeking understated luxury with genuine performance. Production ended in 2004 due to limited sales.
The Car:
Originally registered in Jersey in 2002, this Volkswagen Passat W8 made its way to the UK in 2015. Presented in the striking colour combination of Indigo Blue Pearl with a luxurious tan leather interior, it epitomises understated elegance and performance.
At its heart lies a 3,999cc W8 engine producing 275bhp, paired with a 5-speed automatic gearbox and four-wheel drive. This unique configuration delivers smooth power and assured handling, making it a capable and refined saloon.
The car boasts a comprehensive service history with 14 service stamps, reflecting diligent care and maintenance throughout its life.
Summary:
As a potential 'sleeper,' this W8 offers the perfect blend of rarity, performance, and modern classic appeal. It's a genuine opportunity for enthusiasts seeking a big-engined saloon with timeless character.
