SUMMARY

A 'C16', UK-supplied, right-hand drive GT2, one of only 129 and just 39,500 miles.

DESCRIPTION

The GT2 was based on the 996 Turbo, utilising its new 3.6-litre twin-turbo engine, directly derived from Porsche's GT1 race car, incorporating many parts that were tried and tested in long-distance racing, giving Porsche its double victory at Le Mans. The engine fitted to the GT2 (designation M96/70 S) utilised the newly introduced 'Variocam Plus' system but had 10% more power than the Turbo, which was achieved by fitting more potent turbochargers, a modified exhaust system and adapted engine electronics. The GT2 also made use of a race-derived gearbox, which was reworked and fitted with the lubrication system from the GT3 RS, plus the addition of a friction-plate, limited-slip differential tuned to match the car's ultra-stiff suspension which was 20mm lower than the Turbo to achieve a lower centre of gravity. Coupled with aluminium monobloc 'Turbo Design' wheels, a larger 89-litre fuel tank, and completely new front panelling to reduce aerodynamic front-lift at high speeds and increase air intake, the GT2 really was a race-car for the road. Naturally, performance was electrifying with a 0-62 mph time of just 4.1 seconds and a top speed of 195 mph.

The car presented here is a 2003 Porsche 911 (996) GT2 with the Comfort Pack, which means that you get more forgiving Sports Seats with body-coloured shells rather than hard racing buckets and you also go without the unsightly scaffolding of the roll-cage in the back. Unlike other 911s, the GT models have no rear seats. In Lapis Blue paintwork and with a Black leather interior, adorned with the GT2 graphics, this is a discerningly spec'd GT2. Recently, the car has been the subject of a thorough ground-up mechanical refurbishment, costing circa £16,000 (full details in accompanying invoices). Highlights include the removal of the suspension, engine, suspension arms, gearbox and intake system, as well as all of the chassis components, which were removed for powder coating. The car has also benefitted from replacement brake pipes, clutch, A/C condensers, turbo sumps, shock absorbers, ABS sensor, release bearing, wheel bearing, lower- arm inner mounts, turbo oil catch tanks and track-control arms. Any minimal corrosion and seized bolts were rectified. The suspension was rebuilt, all components were cleaned, waxed and refitted, and the wheels were aligned. In June 2019, Porsche specialists, DW Performance, refurbished both turbos, replaced the alternator, repaired the cam cover and fitted new heat shields, pressure lines and brake pipes.

On top of this, the car has a complete Porsche Centre service history, and is accompanied by its original book-pack, stamped-up service book, MOT test certificates, a car cover, two keys, and various documents for maintenance and servicing, the most recent in April 2022 at Porsche Centre Bolton (plus a 12-momth MOT with no advisories). Sitting on its unmarked original 18-inch Turbo alloys wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport tyres and with Porsche Ceramic Composite Brakes, this GT2 handles and stops as well as it goes!

Believed to be one of just 129 UK-supplied examples, well cared for with fairly low mileage, this is a rare car that is now accruing 'modern-classic' status.
