DESCRIPTION

Porsche's first attempt at building a race car was the 550 Spyder. It was powered by their Carrera 1500cc quad-cam flat four engine and it soon gained a reputation of a ''Giant Killer'' with just a modest 115bhp. In 1956 an evolution of the Spyder won the Targa Floria. During September 1955 one of the first ninety 550 Spyders (Vin 550 - 0055) would be immortalised in history when James Dean, actor and budding race driver collided with Donald Turnupseed on his way to the Salinas Road Race. The trans-axle was removed from the wreck and is still owned in the USA, the bodywork of ''Little Bastard'' toured the States as a macabre reminder to speeding motorists. Between venues it went missing and has not been heard of since.

The 550 Spyder successor, the RSK (718) arrived in 1957and continued with great success in motorsport events around the world.

The Chamonix 550 Spyder is regarded as the closest replica to the real thing. It has a tubular chassis and coil-over suspension that make for incredible handling. The additional power from the 2.0litre injection engine makes it a very quick sportscar. This car was imported by the Holmes Motor Company from Chamonix - Brazil which, with all taxes paid, was an expensive item in the day. In 2008, City Championships, a London Financial Community, devised a promotion involving the purchase of five Chamonix 550 Spyders which were then to be shipped to prestigious venues around the globe for paying clients' driving tours. This was known as the ''G'' Club and this car is number three of the five that were all badged. The event never came to fruition.

Chassis #3 has only covered 3,600 miles and comes complete with full hood and unused side screens. The original specification includes demister with heater, upgraded suspension and sports exhaust. With precise handling and vivid performance this is a superb replica. The history file is complete with documents that trace the interesting history of this iconic recreation.
