2009 Fiat 500 Abarth Race Car

2007 saw the re-release the iconic Fiat 500. Its build quality, reliability and retro styling meant that the modern 500 quickly gained a cult following much like its 1960's predecessor. The 2007 model came with the engine options of a 1.3L Diesel or a 1.2L & 1.4L Petrol.

It didn't take long for the Fiat competition department, 'Abarth', to get its hands on the 500 and in 2008 the 'Abarth 500' was released. This car saw many improvements to the original 500, namely the addition of a turbocharger bringing the 1.4L engine up to 133bhp along with the uprated suspension and a variety of other performance modifications.

This Fiat Abarth 500 is a purpose built Abarth racecar and is not a converted road car. It features a 1.4l Turbo much like the road cars, however, the engine has been further developed to produce 190bhp.

To manage the 190bhp engine, a 6 speed Fiat Punto gearbox has been fitted in replacement of the standard 5 speed gearbox. The gearbox was subject to a complete rebuild by renowned experts Mardi Gras Motorsport in March 2011.

In 2010 the car took part in the Selena Trophy, Abarth European championship and achieved a highly respectable 2nd place championship finish overall, in the hands of Adam Jones. During this time the car accomplished numerous fastest laps, pole positions and podium finishes as can be seen below:

The car has been recently repainted and is now ready to race again. It comes with a large spares package that includes 16 OZ Racing wheels along with numerous wet and slick tyre's, a new spare turbocharger, alternator and rear beam.

Eligible to race in all the Abarth racing challenges that run in Europe, Italy, Scandinavia and North America along, with a range of British race events. This has surely got to be one of the cheapest entries into competitive modern motorsport in a front running car.
