This was the final evolution of Porsche's acclaimed 997 GT3 Series, reflecting the changes made for the second generation of the 997 911. Porsche's GT Series cars are produced in limited numbers by their Motorsport Division, alongside the racecars on which the GT3 is based, and as such the GT3 had been absent from Porsche's price list since the tail end of 2007.
The Generation 2 car was powered by an enlarged version of the motorsport-derived, flat-six, now displacing 3.8-litres instead of 3.6, increasing power by 20bhp to 429bhp. Torque is also bolstered, particularly through the mid-range, whilst economy and emissions also benefitted and significant aerodynamic tweaks generated substantial extra downforce neatly offset by the larger engine's increased torque. Other detailed changes included lighter wheels, with a single centre bolt, shaving 2.5kg from the unsprung mass, and larger yet lighter front discs.
This particular Clubsport is a rare 'C16', right-hand drive, Gen 2 with just 6,960 miles from new and only one previous owner. The accompanying Certificate of Authenticity confirms that the car was first registered on the 15th October 2010 in Guards Red (G1G1) with the 'Clubsport' package and was supplied through Porsche Centre Silverstone.
The certificate also confirms that the optional equipment when delivered new was as follows: Clubsport Sports package, Dynamic Engine Mount, Cruise control, Sound package plus, Windscreen with grey top tint, 6-point belt passenger side, Chrono package plus, telephone module, six-disc CD/DVD autochanger, floor mats, three-spoke sports Alcantara steering wheel, Universal audio, interface, sports bucket seats, automatically dimming mirrors with integrated rain sensor, Porsche Communication Management (PCM) and navigation module and Carbon Outer Door-sill guards.
Our vendor is the second owner, having bought this GT3 from his friend in 2018. Porsche Centre Silverstone conducted the first service in 2013 with Porsche Centre Leeds then being entrusted with the next two services in 2015 and 2017. The most recent service was carried out by Porsche Centre Silverstone in August 2019, when the mileage was 6,318, meaning that this car has been exclusively serviced by main Porsche dealers from new. Accompanying the car are all the usual books, the aforementioned Certificate of Authenticity, all service and maintenance invoices along with a 111-point Porsche Check from 2018 and the factory-supplied fire extinguisher and mounting carrier which have never been out of the box. Our vendor informs us that the GT3 has also been subject to a full-frontal PPF (up to the windscreen) and a ceramic coating (9 years).
With a proper manual gearbox, 45-years of continuous 911 development and a 3.8-litre flat-six, it's little wonder that these GT3s are a favourite amongst motoring journalists and have become a must-have road car for racing drivers and collectors alike.
