SUMMARY

A right-hand drive, matching numbers example with seven large history files on offer from long-term ownership.

DESCRIPTION

Background:

Some cars need no introduction, and Jaguar's timeless E-Type is undoubtedly on that list. Second-generation, Series 2 cars were produced from 1969 to 1971 and can be identified by their open headlights (no longer with glass covers), a wrap-around rear bumper with the taillights now underneath, and the front indicators were larger and similarly repositioned below the slightly heavier front bumpers. The cooling was much improved helped by the enlarged 'mouth' and the later cars featured twin electric fans and uprated brakes. The engine is easily identified visually by the change from smooth polished cam-covers to a ribbed appearance and, for US-spec cars, twin Stromberg carburettors were used. The interior and dashboard were also redesigned, with flick switches being substituted by rocker switches to meet US-regulations.

The Car:

On offer here is a right-hand drive, matching numbers example that comes to market from long term ownership. It's enthusiast owner sadly passed away at the end of last year and so the E-Type is reluctantly being offered for sale by his widow. He was passionate about his beloved Jaguar clearly illustrated by the substantial amount of detailed history supplied with the car and occupying seven large files. There is simply too much information to list here so some salient points are detailed below:

  • Desirable manual gearbox car benefitting from a 10-year ground up restoration
  • Refinished in its original Opalescent Maroon and fitted with a Webasto full-length sunroof
  • A previous JDC Concours d'Elegance winner
  • Displayed at the NEC on the JEC Club stand and featured in Practical Classics magazine
  • Supplied with its original green log book showing three former keepers, old Tax discs and a photographic record of the restoration with a written story
  • Maintained over the years by Anthony Taylor of Autotune

Our team recently drove the car from Bridgnorth to our storage facility in Warwick and we understand it performed well and was enjoyable to drive. We encourage all interested parties to come see the car and the history to fully appreciate the quality on offer.

Summary:

This special example is offered at an extremely competitive guide price when you consider all of the above, its long-term private ownership, condition and extensive history. This charismatic 4.2-litre, manual gearbox coupé offers an excellent opportunity to enter the rewarding world of E-Type ownership.
