One of only 8 RHD Series I Fulvias, this is a rare beasty being, as it is, a correct 1.3HF from 1968. Owned by our vendor since 2003, he acquired the car shortly after a full and exhaustive rebuild by Richard Thorne Classic Cars to HSCC race spec with a 120bhp+ engine and intended for historic rallying or Tour Auto.
At the time the car was being offered for sale, RTCC claimed it to be an 850kg 'homologation' variant and had been subjected to a nearly ú24,000 rebuild on behalf of their original customer. These works, estimated to have been completed around the year 2000, were to strip and bore the engine to suit forged hi-compression pistons, the crankshaft reground, new oilway bungs fitted, new bearings, piston rings, gaskets, seals and timing chain on reassembly. Cylinder head built-up with competition valve springs and 3/4 race cams fitted and timed. Carburettors stripped, checked and reassembled. The chassis, axles, subframe and brakes were all equally breathed-on. A full and detailed list of the rebuild is available.
After acquiring the car, our vendor revisited RTCC in 2004 for additional re-wiring work, mostly fitting equipment for rallying, but spending a further ú2,000 in the process. Later, in August 2005, and following minor rear damage courtesy of an unseen road-side rock during a manoeuvre on a rally in Italy, respected Lancia craftsmen, Winchfield Engineering undertook some metalwork repairs to the back panel, rear valance, filler panel and boot lid, plus, it seems from the pictures that they attended to some sill work for good measure too, totalling nearly ú4,000.
In July 2010, Day and White's Automotive of Kent were appointed to complete a full strip-down and engine rebuild, to remove and dismantle all brake calipers, and refit with new brake pipes at a cost of ú4,300. A new fuel pump was fitted shortly afterwards and then, in June 2014, it went back to Day & White's for a replacement head gasket for which there was no charge.
This very capable and incredibly rare rally car further benefits from retaining its correct aluminium doors, bonnet and boot lid; it has a fitted roll cage with removable sidebars, Sparco OMP seats, TRS belts, long-distance aluminium fuel tank, Monza-style filler cap, painted steel-wheels (in average cosmetic order) and is shod with Vredestein tyres.
Accompanying the car are expired FIA Papers confirming this car's status as
