Experience These Fast Fords in Ebony & Ivory

1987 Ford Sierra RS Cosworth that Slept for 34 Years Emerges from Under the Covers at Iconic Auctioneers Sale on November 11th at The NEC: Guided £100,000 - £140,000

Two stunning low mileage fast Fords with interesting provenance will be coming to the market with Iconic Auctioneers at the NEC Motor Show on November 11th.

A ‘Sleeping Beauty’ 1987 Ford Sierra RS Cosworth with just 12,530 miles on the clock, first owned by Ford as a press car for a year and then sold to the present owner, is coming to sale with Iconic Auctioneers at their NEC Classic Motor Show Sale on the 11th November.

After buying the press car from Ford, the owner moved abroad and the car remained in storage for more than three decades, 32 years in all. Not surprisingly, it looks in mint condition.

Iconic Auctioneers, formerly Silverstone Auctions have gained a reputation for selling best of breed fast Fords. A trio of Fords have made history at their sales this year. A Ford Sierra Cosworth RS500 sold for £596,250, a Ford Sierra Sapphire RS Cosworth 4x4 made £109,125, smashing its £50,000 estimate and a Ford GT beat its estimate to sell for £265,500 – all setting new auction world records.

The previous world record figure paid for a Ford Sierra Cosworth RS500 at auction was £132,750. The winning bid of £596,250 is a staggering 30 times its 1987 original showroom price of £19,950, and over 4 times the previous record. The auction house described it as 'perhaps the finest example of the rare Sierra Cosworth RS500 to survive today’.

Iconic Auctioneers, who sold Princess Diana’s Ford Escort for £737,000 in 2022, have another fabulous, low mileage, Ford Escort coming in for sale on November 11th at the NEC at a guide price of £125,000 to £150,000. This one is an Escort RS Cosworth dating from 1997 and finished in gleaming Diamond White. It has covered a warranted 402 miles and the only name in the logbook is that of the Ford Motor Company.

The car was originally delivered to the dealership with just 24 miles indicated and was briefly used by the Dealer Principal before being popped into his showroom, with an odometer reading of 352 miles, until 2006 when our vendor took a shine to it.
He says he bought it on a whim, having enjoyed a few beers with friends one Sunday afternoon and left a deposit to buy it. Later that week he tried to back out of the arrangement but the dealer, fortunately, refused to return his deposit, as was the practice at the time. In the end, the dealer did agree to buy it back, at 10% less, if the new owner didn’t use it for the next twelve months, but he declined to take them up on that offer.
Our vendor used it briefly to show to friends, as you would, most of whom advised him to not use it regularly as it could well be worth a bit more in the future. Sage advice. This rare RS Cosworth has remained cosseted in his suburban garage ever since, regularly started and run up to temperature, displaying 402 miles and in a commensurate condition.
These are rare and desirable models and this impressive example with just 400 gentle miles and only one name in the logbook, represents a rather special opportunity.
