DESCRIPTION

A UK-supplied Quattrovalvole. One of only 233 in right-hand drive

  • The 4-valves per cylinder QV pushed output back up to 240bhp restoring the status quo
  • Really well presented in the classic combination of Rosso and Nero
  • Only 56,200 miles with ú24,000 of recent service work including cambelts
  • Timeless lines, rewarding handling, removable roof and a raspy V8 - perfect
  • October 1975, saw the debut at the Paris Motor Show of the most successful shape ever to wear the Cavallino Rampante emblem, the Ferrari 308 and during its comparatively, long production run from 1975-89, over 20,000 examples of all engine types and sizes were produced. This new car was constructed on a traditional steel tube chassis, but its beautiful bodywork was initially manufactured in GRP and then, after two years, Scaglietti started making GTBs in steel. The 3-litre, four-cam V8 was more or less unchanged until March 1981 when Bosch fuel injection was added in place of the four double-choke Webers, reducing the engine's power output significantly, although the final drive was altered on these cars to give similar acceleration to a carburettor car. Two years later, the 4-valve per cylinder Quattrovalvole or 'QV' model pushed output back up to 240 bhp restoring the status quo. European spec cars boasted higher horsepower than cars built for the American market and were lighter. Only 748 308 GTB/S QV models were produced and they are considered by many to be the most desirable of all the 308 variations as they are the fastest and most subtly styled with a deep front valance, racing mirrors and short lightweight bumpers.

Offered here is a lovely UK- supplied, 1983 right-hand drive Ferrari 308GTS QV in the classic colour combination of Rosso Corsa with a Nero interior. The original specification included air-con, a deep front spoiler and electric windows. It has been in the same family ownership for twenty-seven years passing from father to son and purchased in 1992 from Hendon Way Motors in North London. The history file is comprehensive and contains service stamps from the likes of Stratstones Manchester, HR Owen and JCT 600. The Ferrari was used by our vendor's father from 1991 to 2000 after which it was placed in long term professional storage. In 2018 it was decided to completely recommission the car and the history file contains expenditure of approximately ú24,000 to achieve this. The work included a cambelt service and, at the same time, the clutch was replaced along with the headlamp motors, front spotlights, steering rack, the front discs and all the suspension bushes. Work to the rear end included all suspension bushes, springs, dampers, discs and pads. The exhaust has been renewed together with much of the fuel delivery system and both front and rear anti-roll bars have been replaced. The history file contains a record of all previous owners, MOTs back to 1988 and the original service/handbooks in their Ferrari leather wallet. The original tool kit remains with the car and the, period-correct, Michelin R390 tyres are new. The work completed should, hopefully, ensure that this six-owner, 56,000 mile, 'QV' delivers a great driving experience for its new owner.

One of only 233 right-hand drive examples produced, the 308 GTS QV with its timeless looks, rewarding handling, removable roof panel, and that raspy V8 just behind you, offers the perfect way into classic Ferrari ownership.
