Mini Clubman 1275GT The Longbridge Tunnel Mini

Silverstone Auctions are proud to offer this salvaged Mini Clubman 1275 GT bodyshell that lay in the tunnels under the Longbridge factory for over 30 years, making it the last ever BL built Mini to leave the famous site.

The iconic car was used by factory workers to travel around the sprawling plant until being 'dumped' by workers in the secret tunnel following damage to it when a storage container fell on it. However, photos of the famous 'lost' Mini, renowned amongst the work force, emerged last year when it was then saved by a former employee who received permission to remove it in 2012. This was just prior to the tunnel being filled in for development work that was due to take place on the site. It then became the legendary 'last Mini' to ever leave the site.

Offered without reserve it is certainly one of the most fascinating cars that we have ever offered for auction. When removed last year it caused ripples around the world in Mini circles, with some believing it should have remained where it was as a nod to the history and heritage of the site. However, now that the decision has been taken to remove it, there is a unique opportunity for a collector to invest in the car or perhaps a museum to display it. After all it is part of our Midlands and National heritage.

Anyone intending to bid for this piece of automotive history should be aware that it has been abandoned for many decades and various items have been removed over time. These include the engine, gearbox and all associated running gear and ancillaries. The original bodyshell does, however, retain its original rear subframe and instruments.
