SUMMARY
This smartly-presented Roadster could prove an ideal entry into various events run by the Veteran Car Club of Great Britain, plus the VSCC Light Car and Edwardian Section rallies and tours.
DESCRIPTION
Although early Model Ts were built by hand in the traditional manner, in 1913 Ford revolutionised automobile production with his moving assembly line, drastically reducing the time from 12.5 hours down to just over 1.5 hours per unit. Mass production really put the Model T on the map and gave rise in the famous motto 'available in any colour so long as it's black', although early cars were actually sold in a variety of colours. Although the basic formula remained substantially the same throughout the Model T's almost two decades long-production life, numerous minor improvements were made, including an electric starter from 1918, routinely updated styling and the option of wire-spoked wheels on later models. In 1923 Ford added a raked windscreen, and mid-way through the year, replaced the wooden firewall with a metal one, with a standardised instrument panel.
This super little 1923 Roadster was purchased in 2014 by our vendor from Mike Norman Restorations in the UK who had imported the Ford from the USA. It's believed to have been restored in the USA prior to import and the car is supplied with a VHRA (Vintage Hot Rod Association) dating letter from 2014 confirming that all the car's components date from 1923.
It has seldom been used by our vendor during his ownership, having been on display at his offices in a private museum. Drained of fuel, the car hasn’t run for a year but it's hoped that it will be running and driving by the time of sale and able to enjoy its 100th Birthday.
A nice older restoration and ideal for VSCC and Model T Ford Register events.
