SUMMARY

Delightfully presented MG VA Open Tourer, an older restoration with some recent expenditure.

DESCRIPTION

  • In production from February 1937 to September 1939, the MG VA 1.5-litre was the smallest of the three touring models offered by MG pre-war and just 2,407 were produced in total during that short period
  • The VA’s 1,548cc four-cylinder twin-carburettor engine generated a useful 54bhp and offered 80mph. Other features included a 4-speed synchromesh gearbox, 10" Lockheed hydraulic drum brakes, adjustable Luvax shock absorbers, sporting 19" wire wheels, built-in Jackall hydraulic jacks and a bumper stabiliser to damp torsional flexing at the front
  • First registered in late 1937, this delightful example presents well in a period-faithful shade of French Blue on silver wire wheels
  • It was acquired for restoration in 2012 as a 'barn find' with a complete drive train and restored between 2012 and 2020
  • The restoration appears to have been carried out on a 'no expense spared' basis and the car really is as good underneath as it is on top
  • The engine and gearbox were rebuilt with a balanced crank and fly-wheel and all other mechanical and electrical aspects were given appropriate attention
  • The interior was superbly retrimmed in a combination of Light Grey, French Navy and Royal Blue and a new hood and side-screens were fitted
  • Acquired by our vendor in memory of his late Father's similar car many years ago, a new project means that it is available once again
  • His only real expenditure since his purchase has been a full gearbox rebuild (£3,000)
  • Recently inspected by the MG Owners Club who have confirmed that it's as it should be, with the exception of the car's colour which is not an original MG colour but looks all the better for it
