SUMMARY
JAP OHV 1,000cc V-Twin powered OEC.
DESCRIPTION
- OEC (Osbourne Engineering Company) was founded in 1915 and based in Gosport in Hampshire
- Known for breaking the land speed record at 130mph in 1930 with a supercharged 1,000cc JAP powered machine
- OEC went on to produce a road going version of their record breaker using a normally-aspirated, JAP V-Twin engine
- Four examples were produced for the Road Research Laboratory and used to test friction surfaces on British roads
- This example was registered new in 1938 as EUC 23 and still retains that number
- Originally fitted with a sidecar with a 'skidding wheel' designed to evaluate road surfaces
- Retired from the Ministry of Transport in the 1960s and acquired by the Connelly brothers as part of their Collection
- The original engine was removed and fitted into a Brough Superior SS100
- The bike then was bought by Mr David Blanchard who kept it for another 45 years until his passing in 2011
- The last ten years have seen the bike undergo a preservation rebuild including the fitting of a correct JTO 1,000cc V-Twin JAP engine
- Rebuilt to resemble an earlier style 1931 OEC 'Flying Squad' model
- Complete with a comprehensive history file containing numerous receipts, correspondence, photos, articles, old RF60 logbook and old V5s
- Presented in highly original finish and in running order
- UK-registered on a current V5C
