SUMMARY

A fine example of Jaguar's post-war, 105bhp, 2½-litre, straight-six 'sporting 'saloon. Restored some years ago and still looking crisp.

DESCRIPTION

  • The Mk IV Jaguar is felt by many to be the epitome of British car design of its era. The huge chrome headlamps, sweeping wings and running boards, luxurious leather interior and French polished wood all speak of style and opulence
  • This delightful example is powered by the 105bhp, 2½-litre straight-six and is finished in classic 1950s black
  • Owned initially by a Mr Mark Rose of Kent, then Harry Philips of Margate in 1953, then onto Walker Stanley Hudson in 1955. Stanley Kennard was the fourth keeper in 1964 and our lucky custodian became the fifth keeper in January 1974, some 50 years ago
  • JYW 779 was treated to a three-year body-off rebuild in 1990 by Davenport Cars of Sandy, an SS specialist still in business today
  • Brand new sills were fabricated from scratch using the original factory drawings and the engine was refreshed at the same time (previously fully rebuilt in 1973)
  • The interior was also totally refurbished by a Jaguar specialist with the correct materials to match the originals, West Of England headlining and brown valmour hide. Fitted from new with a cigarette lighter and air conditioning
  • Some concours success in the 1990s, not quite at that level now but still presents really well
  • Post-war motoring at its best and a significant part of Jaguar history
