DESCRIPTION
This car was originally registered on 2nd April 1952 as a Bentley Mk VI Saloon. The car was used as a saloon until it was sold to renowned Bentley collector Charles Teall. A partnership was formed between Teall and David Simpson and as a result two similar, hand-beaten, MK VI specials were created in 1973. As detailed in the book 'Bentley and Bentley Specials' by Ray Roberts, by taking the standard MK VI chassis the original wheelbase was retained to facilitate occasional 4-seater usage. "The whole cruciform structure was moved back, thus completely retaining the rigidity required to ensure correct operation of the independent front suspension. Original shock absorbers were used on a lowered suspension, achieving a finished sleek scuttle height of only 3' 4" using 15" wire wheels. A compression ratio of 6:4:1 and a six-branch stainless steel exhaust enables the 4 ½ Litre engine to cruise up to 115mph on the track. The drive is taken through a standard Crewe gearbox but the rear axle uses a 3.077 continental ratio for high-speed touring."
Mr Teall used chassis number B351NY, then registered as CEX14, extensively throughout the 1970s both for general use and for competition in Bentley Drivers Club and VSCC meetings. The car has gone on to take part in more than 30 events since it was completed. This example is extremely well regarded and of course well known to the Bentley Drivers Club. The car subsequently came into the ownership of a former chairman of the Bentley Drivers Club, who purchased it for his son-in-law as 'the best car available.' The current owner then bought the car and has spared no expense in maintaining the vehicle correctly. A bill for over £3,000 can be found in the history file from August 2012 detailing various recommissioning works carried out by renowned specialists JSWL Classics.
The car comes complete with an operational hood, tonneau cover and UK registration certificate. Retaining all of its original mechanicals and chassis, this stunning Bentley offers its next owner the mouth-watering opportunity to relive the car's past and return to competition. Alternatively, it is just as capable for long distance touring events, which the current owner has thoroughly enjoyed over the years. "I did almost 500 miles in one day last winter with no hood, my lady passenger thought it was a very special way to travel!"
