SUMMARY
1953 'T-Grille' Series I that has been taken back to bare metal.
DESCRIPTION
As an engineering marvel, the Land Rover can still outstrip its modern counterparts, and the Series I rightly belongs in the Motoring Hall of Fame. Hugely successful globally, improvements were made throughout its long lifespan. In 1950, the lights were moved from a position behind the grille to protrude through the mesh, and in 1952, a larger 2-litre petrol engine replaced the original 1.6-litre. The wheelbase was extended to 86" in 1955 to give the vehicle more stability and greater load capacity. The stronger, more reliable 2-litre petrol engine was standard until 1957.
This 'T-grille' Series I was registered in February 1953 and has been owned by our vendor since 2006. During his tenure, it has benefited from earlier mechanical and cosmetic enhancements, including an engine rebuild, new fuel tank, fresh battery, and retrimmed seats.
The history file contains its V5C registration document and various bills and receipts. The bodywork was believed untouched during the work carried out and is presented with plenty of authentic original patina, including traces of Bronze Green which can be found within the vehicles shut lines and creases. The original canvas covers are also in good order.
This Series I is a fine example and, given the values achieved by recent sales of similar models, appears to be extremely well-estimated. Viewing is highly recommended to appreciate this early Land Rover.
