SUMMARY
A good-looking example of the more powerful, second-generation (M) of Jaguar's stately Mark VII, fully restored and the subject of considerable expenditure.
DESCRIPTION
- The second-generation of Jaguar's Mark VII (known as the VII M) was launched in October 1954 at the British Motor Show
- Although the engine continued with the same capacity and 8:1 compression ratio, the introduction of new high-lift cams increased the amount of power to 190bhp giving the car a claimed top speed of 104mph
- The 4-speed manual gearbox remained the standard fitting but was now constant mesh and fitted with closer ratios
- Other developments included uprated suspension, direction indicators, a revised front end and redesigned tail lights
- According to its accompanying Heritage Certificate, this left-hand drive VII M was finished in Pacific Blue with red leather and supplied new in February 1955 to Hornburg Jaguar of Los Angeles and onward to its first owners, K.M. and L.H. Chatterton, also of Los Angeles
- It was fitted from new with the 4-speed manual gearbox with overdrive
- The car's in-depth history file provides details of work carried out with thousands spent, much of which was with Worcester Classic Spares
- At the end of 2016, some £36,400 had been invested and then, from April 2017, Guy Broad took up the mantle and continued the good works
- Still in Pacific Blue but now with a grey leather interior, this venerable Jaguar is worthy of your inspection and seems guided very sensibly considering the past investment
