DESCRIPTION
My lovely and rare, fully restored 107 pick up is period correct and is very similar to the Dove Grey one in The Dunsfold Collection. Its regrettable sale is owing to the ongoing and apparently never ending costs of restoring my timber framed 16th Century house.
The car was CKD manufactured in Australia and was restored there a few years ago by a respected marque enthusiast and collector. Since then it has mellowed nicely and its condition today is a testament to the quality of the restoration at the time. Australia is the best market to source a Series 1 from, as owing to the extremely dry climate, they are almost entirely rust free, as this one remains. It is not concours but itâs close and as lovely as you could hope for, if you still wish to actually use the car. I took it to the Gaydon Land Rover event a few weeks ago and it was one of the few Series 1 there and the only 107. Accordingly, it attracted lots of attention, with people making very complimentary comments and taking lots of pictures of it.
Since owning the vehicle I have improved it further, with a set of new Jones of England period correct new leaf springs and fitted a refurbished distributor and Solex carburettor. This work, plus a full service, including new spark plugs, all fluids changed and a compete engine tune, by the one of the countrys leading Series 1 specialists, CKD Shop, saw a further £3,000 invested by me.
The little truck is now in superb running order, ready for the next owner to enjoy, drive and show. Finally, it comes with a complete documented and invoiced file of its restoration (but no photographs) and bills for the recent expenditure. It also has a log book kept by its previous owner, for itsregular exercising and any trips taken. If I was to improve anything now, I would perhaps paint the bonnet, as there is some micro blistering in a few places and some of the minor galvanising metalwork is painted, so I might attend to this too.
