SUMMARY
This stylish, low ownership, 1,290cc, twin-cam sports coupé presents well in Winter Blue but may need some light recommissioning before use.
DESCRIPTION
- The Scaglione-designed Giulietta Sprint coupé was launched at the 1954 Turin Motor Show
- Powered by a twin-cam aluminium straight-four with a crossflow head and double overhead camshafts with twin timing chains
- Attractively presented in Winter Blue over a two-tone blue and grey interior, this little Alfa was first UK-registered one 26/08/1959 and has covered just over 62,000 miles with its three keepers
- Its long-term owner from new was Elsie Smith, a well-known figurehead in Classic Alfa Romeo Circles, so much so that the Giulietta Register have an award named after her
- The car is now RHD owing to its in-period conversion from LHD by well known and Alfa Romeo-approved RuddSpeed. Still displaying its Ruddspeed conversion plaque, S/N 283
- 255 HYU was fully restored to a high standard in 1995 at a cost of £10,000-plus (images on file)
- The Alfa is accompanied by a spare engine and gearbox
- Not used recently, it has only covered some 100 or so miles since 2011 and, although it runs, it has not been driven so some mechanical recommissioning work may be necessary before returning to the road
