SUMMARY
Purchased new in Johannesburg in early 1960 and believed to be the third-oldest surviving South African-built Mini.
DESCRIPTION
- Originally assembled (CKD from Longbridge) at Blackheath Assembly Plant in Cape Town with various parts locally produced, including the interior trim, window glass, washer bottle etc. which are unique to these cars
- Mrs Hughes bought the car new in Johannesburg in early 1960 and moved back to the UK in 1966 bringing the Mini with her, travelling on the 'SA Vaal' from Durban to Southampton
- It was UK-registered, FTR 204D, on its arrival (original logbook in file) and then driven to Northumberland to her new address
- Used very sparingly and eventually sold upon her passing in October 1998 by auction. The original newspaper article is with the car, as are the original SA number plates and the spare keys, still with the paper shipping tag attached
- According to our vendor 'The car is totally untouched. Original paint with a few minor age-related marks, rubber floor covering, original seats and interior and rubber boot mat'
- He acquired it in 2011 and has used it as a show car being prominently featured on the 1959 Mini Register stand at shows and keeping the mileage to a minimum (14,365 miles currently). It has two previous keepers.
- It appears to be the third-oldest surviving South African-built Mini (A South African Mini Story by Ryno Verster ) with the other two still in South Africa
- The car is described by our vendor as 'time-warp and is roadworthy'. Remarkable
