1959 Cooper Monaco

In November 1958, the Cooper Car Company launched the T49 MkI as the successor to the successful 'Bobtail'. Featuring the coventry Climax two litre engine, all aluminium bodywork and a notorious short wheel base, it was regarded as amazingly low and light for the period and was very successful straight away on track, notably in the capable hands of Sir Stirling Moss.

This 2 litre Cooper Monaco Mk I is an extremely well presented car with an illustrious past. Currently raced by rapid and noted Gentleman driver, Graeme Dodd, it has been successfully driven by him to two BRDC Sportscar Championships as well as numerous Goodwood podiums and race wins around Europe.

Raced in the early 1990s by Jeffrey Pattinson in extensive VSCC and HGPCA meetings, he went on to claim the BRDC 1950's Sportscar Champioship before selling the car to ex-BTCC Champion and legend, Frank Sytner, who continued the cars winning ways in Europe and at the Goodwood Revival meeting until 2002.

At this point it was acquired by another noted BRDC legend, Ted Williams, who raced the car successfully at the Macau Grand-Prix meeting, as well as the Goodwood Revival and several high profile European sports car races. Acquired by Graeme back in in 2005, he went on to win the BRDC Sportscar Championship twice (three times for the car!) in 2006/'07 as well putting the car on the podium at the '07 Revival in second place to Frank Sytner, but with the honour of fastest lap!

Featured in numerous key books, including "Goodwood-The First Ten Years" where it is pictured leading the Madgwick Cup, it has also raced at the Silverstone Classic in 2007, 2009 and 2012, where it most recently finished second overall. Our vendor also won the prestigious Sir Stirling Moss Trophy at the Oulton Park Gold Cup Meeting in 2012.

Offered fully race ready and with both past and current FIA HTP papers, this is one of the most significant historic sports racing cars ever offered for sale, with outstanding provenance that will be a ticket to all the most prestigious races throughout the world. A spares package including a set of wheels, drive shafts and wishbones is included. However, a spare 2.0 litre Coventry Climax engine and a complete gear box with spare casings are available post sale by separate negotiation.
