1960 BMW Isetta Bubble Car

The vehicle was purchased in 1960 and has remained in York for all its life. It has had two former keepers: the first was a Mr Trevor Harrison, Burton Stone Lane, York. He owned the Isetta from 'new' and there are insurance documents dating back to the 1960s with his name on them. After he died the car was acquired by David Hughes the owner of The Secondhand Warehouse in York. He owned the Isetta from March 2006 until February 2008. The vendor bought the car from The Secondhand Warehouse where it was stuck in a corner hidden behind a big old piano. The car was complete in every way and having been dry stored it started first time. The car has been welded in two places, a new battery box was fitted and the vendor had the door hinges professionally strengthened with steel plates (it is a well-known problem with the car, the hinges are weak so are liable to move and crack the paint around the door hinges). However the door in this "bubble' is solid.All the work has been carried out by Isetta experts as has every MOT to date. The little Isetta has had loads of new parts. The main ones were a new petrol tank and a new braking system and pipes, a complete new wiring harness (so there are no electrical faults at all). It also had a new drive chain assembly, new shock absorber and suspension all round along with new tyres and rims. The complete list and many receipts are in the history file for the vehicle. The vendor has a photo-CD of the complete nut and bolt restoration. There have been no modifications to the vehicle except for the door strengthening. On some cars you will that the restorers have filled the factory spot welds along the rear wings. This has not been done in this car which demonstrates the attention to detail taken over this car.
