Built alongside and sharing many of the iconic styling features of the legendary 300SL Roadster, the Mercedes 190SL combined superb build quality with understated styling and a not insignificant, 104 BHP from the 1.9-litre four-stroke engine. An instant hit, the three-pronged star sparkled amidst the gloom of post-war austerity. The 1955 launch of the 190SL, cemented Mercedes-Benzs reputation as the car manufacturer for those who wanted elegance, build quality and a decent turn of speed. Its hugely successful production ran to 25,881 cars from 1955 until 1963, mainly in left-hand drive form, with most going to the North American market.

This beautiful silver, LHD manual 190SL was manufactured in 1960, and originally delivered to the dry state of California. At some point, date unknown, it returned to Europe providing further joy and pleasure to its new custodian who resided in sunny Cyprus. During late 2014, the Mercedes arrived in the UK ready for the next chapter of its life, and a thorough restoration was commissioned. The work was entrusted to Classic & Iconic Cars Ltd. who were requested to conduct an appraisal of the amount of work required. Upon receipt of this information, the owner instructed that all the recommended works be completed at significant cost. Cosmetically the body was completely stripped, prepared, and carefully repainted in the beautiful classic Silver finish it now wears. The engine was removed and subjected to an extensive rebuild using new pistons, bearings, valves and guides, and was professionally balanced before reassembly. Whilst the engine was away, attention was focused on the brakes, suspension, and a new exhaust system and new tyres were fitted. It was also decided to fit Weber 40DCOE carburettors to provide smoother running and 'turn-key' performance. Subsequently, once the car was reassembled, it was sent to be professionally set up on a rolling road. The spectacular results can be seen here with the gleaming silver coachwork set off by the exceptional red leather interior, and that classic SL dashboard with its cream Bakelite steering wheel. Finally, the cat was put through the MoT test and prepared for sale.

Viewing of the history file is recommended where copies of receipts and invoices are available displaying the full extent of work completed along with the car's accompanying V5C and MoT Certificate.

If you are seriously seeking “the right” 190SL, please take the time to appreciate 606 UYR, and you might find that this immaculate, well-travelled little Mercedes is exactly what you had in mind.
