Offered here is a remarkable Jaguar MK2 manufactured in October 1961 and supplied new by Coombs & Sons of Guildford, Surrey, specified in right-hand drive with a 3.8-litre engine, manual gearbox with overdrive and finished in Opalescent Gunmetal with light blue interior trim. First registered on 03 January 1962, this outstanding example has a complete continuous history supplied and serviced by Coombs until 1968 and remaining in the same family until 2011. A Jaguar Heritage Certificate on file supports the original specification and the original service book, also in the file, supports the early service history with stamps through to 1986 at 70,196 miles.
Our vendor purchased this fabulous MK2 in 2011 and after enjoying the car for some time, took the decision to set about a full and detailed restoration. Beginning in 2013, the car was delivered to a specialist body-shop where the bodyshell was blasted, new metal and panels were added where required, and finally prepared and repainted in the correct colour of Opalescent Gunmetal Grey. Suffolk and Turley were instructed to complete a total retrim and the engine was sent to a specialist for a complete rebuild with images on file. Pleasingly, the original matching numbers block was serviceable and rebuilt with all new high-quality parts where required. Further updates included a five-speed, all-synchromesh gearbox, power steering, uprated clutch, triple SU carburettors, a modern radiator with fan and uprated suspension, all updates that are totally acceptable and appreciated within the rarefied world of top-end Jaguars.
Accompanying the car are two large history files and an original book pack with the aforementioned original service book stamped up to 1986 at 70,196 miles. The service book shows the last Coombs Garage service stamp in 1968 at 25,086 miles. Also in the files are supporting invoices, old MOTs, a wealth of early history, old registration documents, Jaguar Heritage Certificate, photographs of the restoration and invoices with a breakdown of recent works totalling +£67,000. Happily, the original tool kit is also present, secured within the spare wheel.
In summary, this is a rare MK2, the Holy Grail to collectors and enthusiasts alike, supplied new by the fabled Coombs Garage, right-hand drive, 3.8, manual, beautifully restored with a complete history from new and frankly, unlikely to be repeated.
