SUMMARY
An attractive example of Ford's four-cylinder Consul 'drop top', ready to be enjoyed.
DESCRIPTION
- In 1956, the Consul Mk II appeared still positioned as the four-cylinder, sub-model of the Zephyr range, with which it shared the same basic body shell
- Compared with the original, it had a longer wheelbase, larger 1,703cc, 59bhp engine and a complete restyle, borrowing cues from the 1956 models of America's Thunderbird and Fairlane
- The roof profile was lowered in 1959 on the Mk II which also had redesigned rear lights and much of the external brightwork in stainless steel. Front disc brakes with a vacuum servo were made standard in 1961
- Convertible versions of the Consul and Zephyr were coachbuilt by Carbodies Ltd., the company that went on to build the iconic London Taxi
- Finished in Monaco Red with a grey interior this appears to be an older restoration completed to a good, useable standard
- The power roof appears to be in excellent working condition
- Supplied with a Ford Consul service manual and its original handbook
- Ready to be used and enjoyed as is, or it wouldn't need much to take it to the next level
