1962 Jaguar Mk.II 3.8 Manual Overdrive

The Jaguar Mk II is a handsome, powerful saloon - blessed with great handling - and built in Coventry between 1959 and 1967. It is a quick car, even by the standards of today, with 220bhp on tap and a 0-60mph time of 8.5seconds and a top speed of 125mph. When new it was the fastest four door in the world and soon gained an iconic status from both its racing pedigree and successes on the track and its equally high profile use as a prolific police car and, of course, the quicker 'get-away' drivers of the day!

This car was first registered in January 1962 and is a matching numbers car - complete with original engine and uprated "all synchro" gearbox. The numerous MOTs in the history file that accompanies the car seem to substantiate the 57,000 miles as accurate.

Excitingly it benefits from being maintained by, and recently restored by, M and C Wilkinson of Doncaster. They are one of the most highly respected family run Jaguar engineers and specialists in the country today, they have been responsible for the restoration and rebuilding of some very special exemplary period Jaguar road and race cars.

The car benefits from a recent comprehensive engine rebuild and a complete strip down to a bare shell. All the suspension has been rebuilt with new springs and shock absorbers and the fuel tank and lines have been replaced. The brakes have been upgraded with new master cylinders, new servo, front Coopercraft calipers and a rear 'XJ' brake caliper conversion.

In addition to repainting the car in its original beautiful colour of Opalescent Blue, the interior has been re-trimmed by Suffolk and Turley in blue leather and a new headlining fitted. The remaining interior has been re-trimmed throughout complementing the dashboard which features re-veneered woodwork and a period 'Les Leston' steering wheel.

All the chrome work, excluding the window frames, have been freshly re-chromed with all bumpers and bright work triple chrome plated. All new body rubbers have been fitted and the engine finished off with a new stainless steel exhaust, new water hoses and a new uprated heater box. Finally, powder coated wire wheels and Jaguar handbooks finish the car off, leaving it ready for its new owner to drive and enjoy.
