1963 Triumph TR4

Classics rarely come more surefire than Triumph's TR range; always in vogue, they guarantee you low running costs and plenty of fun. While the earlier side-screen TRs are relatively impractical, the initial 'full-width' editions are eminently usable and affordable too. Even better, the cars are tough as old boots, while specialists and clubs proliferate. Even though the TR4 was really just a reskinned TR3, the later car is a more usable classic that's long-legged, practical and easy to upgrade, whether it's for historic racing, the occasional B-road blast or something altogether more ambitious that involves crossing continents. If you're looking for an adaptable classic, few are more highly qualified than the TR4.

We are informed by the vendor that this particular TR4 behaves exactly as a well sorted TR4 should, darting from corner to corner and brimming with feel. The suspension keeps the car planted on the road and gives plenty of feedback to the steering wheel as to what's happening on the road. The 4 cylinder engine gives the nimble roadster a lively shove that's free from any misfires or ominous noises. We are told any worries of mechanical maladies or instrumentation issues quickly fade away when once on the move.

The vendor informs us of a recent body restoration including new wings (steel), floors, inner/outer sills etc. and a recent repaint and as such the body work is reported to be in excellent order throughout. It's the same story with the hood, which is in full working order and bereft of tears or hints of mould. All gauges are reported to be working and the mileometer currently shows a reading of 31012, we are told the interior also benefits from a new carpet set and new door cards.

The engine has recently been rebuilt by Paul Inch Engine Services and as such runs without fault, a kenlow fan has been fitted and the gearbox is reported to engage without any clunking and the overdrive system is also reported to be in good working order.

Sold with a fresh MOT this is a TR4 which you can enjoy driving rather than a low mileage stunner to impress judges with, the TR4 is a rock solid classic and look increasingly good value and now couldn't be a better time to jump into the driver's seat.
