SUMMARY

A rare piece of Yamaha's early history, a wonderful blank canvas.

DESCRIPTION

Background:

The Yamaha TD1-B, introduced in the early 1960s, was a highly influential racing motorcycle that played a key role in establishing Yamaha as a dominant force in the world of Grand Prix racing. Powered by a 250cc, two-stroke, twin-cylinder engine, the TD1-B was developed as an evolution of the earlier TD1 model, with improvements in engine performance and handling. It was designed for the 250cc class and became a popular choice in amateur and professional racing events. The bike’s success on the track helped Yamaha gain recognition for its technological innovation and performance, contributing to the brand's rise in motorcycle racing during the 1960s and beyond. The TD1-B’s impact was significant in the development of Yamaha's racing legacy and solidified its place in the history of competitive motorsport.

Summary:

These iconic machines rarely become available and even more rarely as a restoration project. As such, we are proud to offer this 1963 example. Carrying frame number T1-453 and engine number DS6-222, this machine retains much of its original parts and even its original owner's and workshop manuals.

Said to be around 90% complete, most key components are present, having been partially restored. Work done includes restoration of the fuel tank, fairing, and tachometer. The front fender is not present.

Summary:

A rare and sought after machine that provides a blank canvas for a wonderful period GP bike.
