DESCRIPTION
The initial 750 Series Giulietta chassis featured independent front suspension with a coil-sprung live rear axle and drum brakes all round. The engine, like the suspension, owed much to Alfa's racing experience, hence the ability of the twin-cam four cylinder unit to produce 65bhp from just 1,290cc.
Major changes appeared in 1959 with the 101 Series. Though outwardly similar, the 1,290cc engine was strengthened, while the bodies received minor detail alterations. The final change came in 1962 when the renamed Giulia models appeared with five-speed gearboxes and a 92bhp, 1,570cc version of the twin-cam engine.
This is a very rare original left-hand drive example and was manufactured on 28th August 1964 and delivered to Newark Garage, U.S.A. It was purchased by its first owner and cherished until 1987, when it was placed in a dry storage facility and left untouched for 20 years. Evidently, the original owner moved around America during his life and there is a complete set of original U.S.A title certificates from 1970, 1972 and 1987, detailing the life of this little Spider.
This Giulia was then purchased many years later by a restoration specialist who set about a ground up restoration on the car. Pictures and invoices can be found in the history file, along with an Alfa Romeo Automobilismo Storico letter of authenticity confirming this car's build date and matching engine number.
The current owner imported this Alfa Romeo and finished the restoration with Thames Motor Company, before UK registration on 9th October 2012. The current car is in lovely condition and has a current MoT so it is ready for sunny summer motoring. It is also supplied with wet weather gear, superb hood and a further letter of authenticity from the Alfa Romeo Owner's Club.
Very rarely do you find an original 64' Spider still with its original engine and with only 2 documented owners from new.
