DESCRIPTION

The positioning of the Ford Lotus Cortina in motorsport needs little introduction. The collaboration between Ford and Colin Chapman was a master stroke that would see the Cortina dominate saloon car racing both in period and latter day historic racing. The Sixties was punctuated by top race drivers delivering winning results as manufacturers saw the marketing power of motorsport. Ford were rapidly becoming the true exponents employing drivers that read like a 'who's who' of motorsport talent. In 1964, Jim Clark who had the greatest association with the Lotus marque became British Touring Car Champion.

Offered here is a very well engineered 1964 FIA Ford Lotus Cortina that has been raced in Scandinavia from 2007-12 by our UK vendor. The comprehensive history file shows a complete train of history from the Eighties when it was exported to Tommy Johansson, the Harley Davidson dealer for Sweden. Previously, it was raced in the UK by Barry Wood and was regarded as one of the quickest Lotus Cortinas in Europe. The car was built by James Morgan (ex Alan Mann engineer) in the Gartrack workshops.

The latest engine specification is listed by Bertil Carlsson as FIA homologation conforming and available on file. The file also includes a full car specification sheet showing it to have the essential components required for a potentially competitive Lotus Cortina. It comes with four spare wheels and tyres and with the guide set represents value in today's market. This is a very sound, well engineered and sorted race car. By the time of the auction a current V5 (previous on file) should be available further enhancing its appeal. BFL 300C is the original December 1964 registration.
