DESCRIPTION

The Volkswagen Beetle was produced originally as an economic and robust little car' for the people'. Ferdinand Porsche was instructed to build a car that was capable of transporting two adults and three children at a speed of 100 km/h. The VW Beetle started production in 1938, finishing a massive 65 years later in 2003. It was designed to be mechanically simple, economical to maintain, robust and with as little to go wrong as possible. This probably underpins why so many Beetles are still on the road and why it has its reputation for reliability and sturdiness. Production continued in Mexico until the New Beetle was introduced.

We are informed by the vendor that this particular Beetle was subject to a 2 year home restoration, new parts included new floor pans, bulk-head heater channel seals, new front and rear wings and new inner and outer wing sections with the bodywork being finished in original Volkswagen Sea Blue.

Mechanically the engine has been completely overhauled including new piston rings, a new carburettor, new clutch and a refurbished gearbox with Scat quick shift. Likewise the interior has been completely re-trimmed including new headlining, re-covered seats, a new carpet set and new window rubbers have been fitted all round.

This really is a very well sorted car and as a result the beautifully clean engine runs extremely well and starts instantly. There are no noises or leaks and the gear changes are as good as they can be. The unusual slightly offset pedals activate a sharp clutch. The vendor also informs us that this Beetle has been set up with strength and sturdiness in mind.

To complete the look the car benefits from the fitting of quality EMPI alloy wheels shod with quality rubber all round. You rarely get back the cost of a restoration, so why not take advantage of somebody else's hard work, take it to shows or just enjoy the drive, either way this is a compelling purchase for any Beetle enthusiast.
