DESCRIPTION
First released in 1964, the Ford Mustang created a storm when it hit the streets and it still does to this day. Ford wanted to make the Mustang affordable and therefore it needed to share much of its engineering with an existing Ford product. They decided to base the Mustang on the smallest US Ford at the time, the Falcon.
The Mustang was initially offered as either a "notchback' coupe or convertible. It shared its front double-wishbone/coil spring and leaf spring rear suspension with the Falcon. Compared to the Falcon its cockpit sat further back on the chassis, resulting in a longer front end and shorter rear design, both its roof and cowl were also lower in comparison. It's with those proportions and detailed with such iconic touches as the running horse in the grille, the cut away side detailing and the rear lights divided into three sections, that the Mustang became a car people were instantly passionate about.
Built on 29th April 1965, this 289 Fastback Mustang was originally delivered to its first owner in Charlotte, North Carolina, USA. It was finished in Silver Blue Metallic with White Crinkle Vinyl with Blue Appointments, and the more desirable Pony Interior which featured luxuries such as door-mounted courtesy lights, a woodgrain Deluxe steering wheel and a five-dial instrument panel - features the car still retains to this day.
The last owner of this car in the States, a Dr T. Pollard of Tennessee, owned the car from 1993 to 2014, and it was within the last 4 of his ownership that he decided to have the car restored and present it to his wife as a very special gift. It's rumoured that Mrs Pollard was so pleased with her "new toy' that she regularly showed the car at Mustang Club events thereafter! Our vendor purchased this car in the summer of 2014 and had it shipped back to the UK and registered as "FNA 421C.' Upon arrival, the car was sent to marque specialists, the Mustang Workshop in Basingstoke for fettling - bills in the history file show more than £2,000 worth of work was undertaken.
Finished in metallic light blue with a full beige vinyl interior and housing a 4-speed manual gearbox with a Hurst shifter, the car also incorporates GT front fog lights, air conditioning, power steering, front disc brakes, chrome wheels and the Rally-Pac, which refers to the steering column mounted tachometer and clock - an option discontinued by Ford in 1966.
Supplied with an MoT certificate valid until 12th August 2015, bills of recent work carried out and a UK V5c, this beautifully restored Mustang is an opportunity not to be missed by any muscle car fans.
