SUMMARY
This is a rare opportunity to acquire a unique and beautiful Carrozzeria-bodied car, the world’s only right-hand drive TVR Trident Coupé.
DESCRIPTION
The third of three prototype TVR Trident Coupés and the only right-hand drive example, the Trident was designed by Trevor Fiore and hand-built in steel on a stretched TVR Griffith 200 chassis by Carrozzeria Fissore of Turin in 1965. It was shown at the Turin Motor Show in November of that year before being sent to TVR Cars where it was dismantled and carefully stored until 1972. Over the next decade or so it passed through the hands of several optimistic restorers before being acquired by its current owner in 1986, at which time a full restoration commenced under the guidance of Sir Stirling Moss’ ex-racing mechanic, Don Haldenby. Don's brief was to return this unique TVR to its original condition, including sourcing a correct Ford 289 V8 with 4-barrel Holley carburettor, Borg Warner T10 gearbox and Salisbury Power-Lok 4HU differential. When the Trident was put together in the late 1980s, the correct TVR suspension was unavailable, so it was fitted with Ford front and Jaguar rear suspension, pleasingly, resulting in better drivability and, as it was a prototype, that was the whole idea.
The car has recently undergone a complete strip down and respray to maintain its Concours standard and eligibility for most major Concours events. It has previously featured in the Cartier Style et Luxe at the Goodwood Festival of Speed and Salon Privé at Blenheim Palace to name but a few. The car’s provenance has recently been verified by the TVR Car Club and, more importantly, in a letter from the then owner and managing director of TVR Engineering, Martin Lilley, confirming its presence at the Turin Motor Show in 1965 and its sale from the factory in 1972.
Having covered just 13,000 miles from new and still sporting its original Italian hand-crafted interior, this is a rare opportunity to acquire a unique and beautiful Carrozzeria bodied car, the world’s only right-hand drive TVR Trident Coupé.
