SUMMARY
An outstanding, Tremec 5-speed, fully upgraded Mustang GT with Richard Rawlings TV provenance.
DESCRIPTION
The Ford Mustang was launched in April 1964 with the Ford Motor Company running advertising campaigns on all three major TV channels across America at the same time, a form of promotion that had never been attempted before. On the first day that the car became available, Ford sold 22,000 examples and by the end of the year, nearly 500,000 of these sensational motor cars had found new homes. A range of engines, body styles and styling options ensured that the Mustang had a very broad appeal. In 1965 the 'Mustang GT' was introduced and featured five dial instruments, thicker roll bars, quick ratio steering, dual exhausts that exited through the rear valance, dual mounted fog lights in the grille and special lower body side stripes. Another popular option was the 'Rally Pac' which added a tachometer and a clock. To this day, the GT models are the most desirable and sought after of all the Mustangs.
Richard Rawlings is well known for his TV exploits with his name connected to such shows as Fast & Loud, Garage Re-Hab and most importantly, the world renowned Gas Monkey Garage so to have his name associated with one of your vehicles, especially a Mustang (for which he has a particular passion) brings about a certain kudos. This particular Dearborn-built Fastback GT rolled of the production line in 1966 and was originally fitted with an A-Code, 289ci, 4-valve V8 before being eventually imported to the UK from Texas in 2017 but not before, we are informed, passing through the hands of Richard himself having located it as a barn find. The extent of his personal involvement is not clear but the car certainly appears in an episode of Garage Re-Hab. Enhancements and upgrades from that period include a superb Pony Racing Half Hide interior, an engine rebuild incorporating Ford Racing Heads and Roller Rockers, a Tremec 5-speed gearbox with Hurst Shifter together with, as you would expect, uprated brakes and suspension.
The present owner acquired the vehicle in 2019 using it sparingly in the intervening years until the decision was made that an element of refreshment was required to bring the Mustang up to its present outstanding condition. It was treated to a full bare-metal refinish by Pristine Classic Cars of Essex in what appears to be Vintage Burgundy, a correct 1966 colour, the detailing of the impressive engine bay, a rewire as required and a total wheel refurbishment. The results are simply stunning, this is an outstanding example of a manual gearbox, 'fastback' GT in a great colour and trim combination that benefits from Stateside mechanical magic, a quality UK repaint and the cachet of Richard Rawlings/Gas Monkey provenance.
Your early inspection is welcomed and encouraged to fully appreciate the opportunity on offer.
