SUMMARY

A super drivers' car, now 3.8-litres and upgraded and presented as an homage to the distinctive Coombs-modified, Mk2s of the Sixties.

DESCRIPTION

  • Registered HDU 908D on 25/02/1966 as one of 50 pre-registered Jaguars then exported to Zimbabwe, returning around 2015/16
  • Finished in British Racing Green with black wire wheels and chrome spinners
  • Light tan leather interior with a Moto-Lita wood-rim steering wheel
  • Restored in Zimbabwe however the engine was rebuilt incorrectly at the time, hence a full strip-down and rebuild by its one and only UK-keeper since arriving here
  • At this point it was decided to upgrade the car with a number of performance modifications in the style of those offered in period by Coombs of Guilford
  • The company offered a plethora of options from which customers could choose so no two were the same, but generally included an uprated engine matched by steering and suspension mods in addition to the Coombs signature rear wheel arches and louvred bonnet
  • In this case the engine size was increased to 3.8-litres, fully balanced with a 9.5:1 compression ratio, larger SUs on a gas flowed inlet, lightened flywheel, a competition clutch and much more
  • At the same time, Adwest power-steering was added (an original option), an LSD fitted, upgraded brakes, stiffer springs with gas shockers and a new set of period Blockley Radials were fitted
  • Good history file including details from the overseas owner, Mrs Bathurst-Brown, and includes correspondence, many invoices and photographic evidence of work completed
  • This is without doubt a true drivers car offering around 260bhp with the brakes, handling and looks to match
