SUMMARY

Offered without Reserve from the Grand Tourers Collection, European supplied new and just 35,129 recorded kilometres.

DESCRIPTION

The Grand Tourers Collection was curated by a now deceased gentleman, who amassed some 38 cars at one stage. Each car stands on its own merits and represents an era of style roadsters and hand built coupes. Offered without Reserve, the cars are worthy of serious attention.

The second generation of the SL series began with the 230 of 1963. Designed by Paul Bracq, its wonderfully crisp styling clothed a monocoque chassis equipped with all-round independent suspension, power-assisted disc/drum brakes, recirculating ball steering and a 2,306cc straight-six engine producing 150bhp and 145lbs/ft of torque mated to either a 4-speed manual or automatic transmission. The car was an international hit for Mercedes-Benz throughout the 1960s and has remained hugely popular amongst film stars, musicians and enthusiasts ever since.

The 230 SL Pagoda we have on offer here is a lovely honest example, just the way we enthusiasts love to see them, full of character and a charm that no restoration can ever replicate. Supplied in left-hand drive for the European market with an automatic gearbox and built mid-way through the 230 SL production as car number 10,832 of 19,832 examples, on the 1st January 1966. The incredibly detailed history file evidences that the odometer reading of 35,129 kilometres may well be correct.

Offered without Reserve and a fresh MOT and finished in Horizon Blue with a charming red interior this lovely car is presented with dozens of maintenance receipts during its time in Germany, including Mercedes-Benz main dealer invoices since the car’s time in the UK. Imported into the UK and registered with the DVLA on 1st December 2015. With two owners, and latterly the gentleman’s widow registered as the third keeper since.
